At the close of nominations on Friday 8th April 2021, Knockin Parish Council has

 1 vacancy for a councillor which can now be filled by co-option

Eligibility criteria to be a Councillor

To be eligible to stand as a councillor you must be qualified by virtue of being a British or Commonwealth Citizen, citizen of the Republic of Ireland or European Union citizen, who has attained the age of 18 years and is:

(a) registered as a local government elector for the parish; and/or who has

(b) during the whole of the twelve months preceding the appointment occupied as owner or tenant land or other premises in the parish; and/or his/her

(c) principal or only place of work during those twelve months has been in the parish; and/or has

(d) during those twelve months resided in the parish or within 4.8 kilometres of it;

and is not disqualified from holding office by reason of any disqualification set out in Section 80 of the Local Government Act 1972.


Applicants are asked to apply in writing, setting out why you wish to be considered as a councillor and any qualities or experience that you have that you think would benefit the Parish Council.

Please note that the due to the pandemic the Council is holding all meetings virtually so access to a computer/ mobile phone would be an advantage although not essential.

Census Support in Shropshire

  • If you require support to complete the census you can share your access code with family and trusted friends who can complete the census on your behalf.
  • During week commencing 8th March: every household will receive an information pack that includes your access code


Online Completion

Complete the census online using your access code. Online help is available at including a Web Chat facility.The online census is compatible with Assistive technology for screen readers & magnifying technology


Telephone support

The National Contact Centre Helpline 0800 141 2021 provides 3 options:

  • Option 1: automated service to request a paper form using your access code
  • Option 2: listen to the answers of Frequently Asked Questions
  • Option 3: speak to an adviser


  • You can complete the census with a Telephone Capture service where you answers will be completed by an adviser
  • Ring 0800 587 2021 to use a translation service featuring 53 languages ( the census can only be completed in English or Welsh
  • There is a Text Relay service at 18001 0800 141 2021
  • You can order a large print census form from the Contact Centre

Unfortunately due to Covid 19 it is not currently possible to visit the centres but they will provide telephone help, telephone completion and Microsoft Teams meetings to help people complete the census. Ring these libraries for local help:
